Berlin (dpa) - vaccinations against influenza should be possible according to plans of Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) in future to a limited extent in pharmacies.
Health insurance companies should be able to arrange regional model projects with
pharmacists for up to five years. This provides for a draft of the Ministry, which is the German Press Agency. Inoculation staff in pharmacies should be trained by doctors, there must also be suitable rooms and the necessary equipment available. In addition, the draft provides relief for the chronically ill and medication deliveries by messenger.
Spahn had some time ago additional tasks for pharmacies in conversation, which should also ensure a nationwide presence on the ground. In the face of full practice waiting room for vaccinations are also conceivable, he said at the Apothekerertag in the fall. The stated goal is now to increase the vaccination rate in the population. The medical training for vaccinations should also provide information on how to deal with any vaccination reactions. The model projects are to be evaluated scientifically.
From German GP's came criticism. There is no question that pharmacists have important competences, said Chairman Ulrich Weigeldt. "However, the vaccination of patients is not one of them and is clearly in the medical practice." Although influenza vaccines are generally well tolerated, but side effects such as allergic reactions can never be completely ruled out. Vaccinations should therefore always take place where, if necessary, a medical treatment is possible. Delays in flu vaccines are not due to waiting times in practices, but to regional supply bottlenecks in vaccines, said Weigeldt.
The Ministry's draft bill also provides for further new regulations to strengthen the local presence of pharmacies and to expand offers for customers. For example, cash-patients with severe chronic illnesses should be able to receive prescriptions from the doctor so that they can pick up a drug at the pharmacy up to three times - for up to one year after the prescription has been issued. This should also relieve the doctors.
It is also planned to make it easier for pharmacies to expand their delivery offers with messengers. They should not only be possible on an individual basis, but regularly. For prescription medicines, pharmaceutical personnel should have to take delivery, if initially there is no prescription in the pharmacy. Patients must present the prescription at the latest when they receive the drug, they should also be advised. In addition, counseling should also be possible "via telecommunications from the pharmacy". Vending machines, where you can buy medicines directly, should be banned outside pharmacies.

The draft also provides for additional remuneration of the statutory and private health insurance companies for pharmacies of around 200 million euros per year. These include 40 million euros more for emergency services and night services. The Federal Association of German Pharmacists Associations (ABDA) welcomed the draft, because the direction is right. The law offers a chance to really improve care. In the design of additional pharmaceutical services but still a number of questions are open.
